Artist Ray says; I only learned as a teenager that the a wooden spoon was originally designed for cooking. As a child I was of the impression it was solely used as a tool to make you behave better. It was an equaliser so powerful that it transformed children into rabbits caught in headlights. I don’t recall ever being hit by said wooden spoon. To me, it was like the movie Jaws. You rarely saw the shark, but the mere mention of it spoon could strike the “fear of God” in the most resolute of kids. Cue the Jaws music and the wooden spoon 😜😂.
About Ray Hurley
About Ray Hurley
"For such a small nation, Ireland has a rich tapestry of stories. These tales remind us who we are and where we came from. Movies entertain, inspire and delight us. They question our morals and expose us to new ways of thinking.
During the pandemic and subsequent lockdowns I found I had more time in the evenings to revisit my favourite Irish movies. As a designer I challenged myself to condense the subject matter into brief sketches. These were the most poignant, funny or clever aspects of the films that resonated with me." Now, I love illustrating prints based on film, nostalgia & Ireland." - Ray Hurley.
