The designer Ray says "

So, I had a lot of feedback from my Notions in the Oceans print and Ireland’s SEA-SWIMMING community have demanded to know – why I haven’t included a dry robe?

Firstly, as a humble “land-walker”, I was unaware that such an important garment existed. Sadly, my knowledge had peaked at using a towel and for this I unreservedly apologise to the SEA SWIMMING community.

However, to atone for this error I have attended an intensive 132 hour SEA-SWIMMING seminar facilitated on the behest of the ‘SEA-SWIMMERS ASSOCIATION OF SEA-SWIMMING AND HONOURABLE DRY-ROBE WEARING BRIGADE (aka the SSASSHDRWB)’ at their exclusive SEA-SWIMMING compound (location can not be disclosed – due to NDA).

Below are the RULES about dry-robes.

Dry robes are the preferred garment of a pre and post SEA SWIM of all official recognised SEA-SWIMMERS. Dry Robes can only be used if you are partaking in an official SEA-SWIM. SEA-SWIMMING dry robes can not be utilised for the following activities:

  • Pool swimming
  • Lake swimming
  • River swimming

* Penalties for using a dry-robe for the above activities include a blanket ban on using the term “SEA-SWIMMING” and a legally binding restraining order – denying the guilty party from being within 100 yards of a SEA-SWIMMER.

Legal Disclaimer: As per agreement with the ‘SEA-SWIMMERS ASSOCIATION OF SEA-SWIMMING AND HONOURABLE DRY-ROBE WEARING BRIGADE’, this text has included the legally required minimum of at least ten unsolicited references to SEA-SWIMMING."

About Ray Hurley

"For such a small nation, Ireland has a rich tapestry of stories. These tales remind us who we are and where we came from. Movies entertain, inspire and delight us. They question our morals and expose us to new ways of thinking.

During the pandemic and subsequent lockdowns I found I had more time in the evenings to revisit my favourite Irish movies. As a designer I challenged myself to condense the subject matter into brief sketches. These were the most poignant, funny or clever aspects of the films that resonated with me." Now, I love illustrating prints based on film, nostalgia & Ireland." - Ray Hurley.
