"Dubliners love to label people. If you were born and raised outside of Dublin (and in Ireland) – you are a ‘Culchie’. ‘Culchie’ is a pejorative term in the Hiberno-English dialect for someone from rural Ireland. However, in recent years the ‘Culchies’ have reclaimed this as term of endearment and pride of their small town or country background.

Since my family and I moved to Dublin during the midst of the pandemic in July 2020, I found myself being labelled a ‘Culchie’ by the natives.

Instead of rebelling against this term – I’ve fully embraced it. I have recalled tales of keeping a two hundred strong herd of cattle and a couple of donkeys in my small childhood back garden in a Ballincollig housing estate. At every opportunity I have trotted out the phrase “there won’t be a cow milked at home” after even the slightest win for a Cork team and I have also looked on puzzlingly when Dubs mention a thing called ‘the internet’?

I think my friendly sarcasm falls on deaf ears at times and fear I am now a purveyor of disinformation or ‘fake news’. To help my Dublin friends I have created a print that will reassure them of how the rest of Ireland really live. 😜😂

Up the Dubs and the Culchies. I’ll stick to being a Rebel! 😀💪🏻"
